NFL Week 3 is over and done. What have we learned 3/17ths of the way through the 2009 regular season?
The Lions won a game! The Lions won a game! There is much joy in Motown. Now the Rams, with their 13 consecutive losses, are officially the most hapless team in the NFL.
T.O. snuck his way back into the national spotlight this week, but even he wouldn't want it this way (well, maybe). T.O. was the recipient of exactly zero catches in a game for the first time in a decade or so. The national media is picking on the
Tim Tebow

I was at a sports bar in Tampa, Florida, last weekend, ahem, doing research for Buzzer Eagle, when the subject of the Florida Gators came up. The guy next to me said, in rapid succession, that a) Superman wears Tim Tebow pajamas, b) they're thinking of renaming the Heisman "the Tebow", and c) Tebow could take on the other team by himself, just Tebow against 11 defenders. I don't mean that he sprinkled those nuggets of hyperbole into a conversation. He spouted all that out in three consecutive sentences, without even giving his drinking companions a chance to slip in
NFL Week 2

NFL Week 2 is in the books (almost - I'm writing this before the Sunday & Monday night games), and what have we learned? The Lions lost again. Ho hum. The good news is that they play the Rams in Week 8 of this season. The Rams may be even worse than the Lions, so 1-15 is a real possibility this year. Dare to dream, Detroit.
Both the Superbowl XLIII (that's 43 for those of us who went to public schools) Champion Steelers and the already- anointed-by-the-pundits Superbowl XLIV champion Patriots both lost, which was greatly

NFL Week 1

It's here. It's finally here. Week 1 of the 2009 NFL season is in the books. And what have we learned?
The Lions lost. Again. I can't be bothered to look it up, but they've now lost something like 100 games in a row. I don't think they've won a game since sometime during the Carter administration. I'm pretty sure that they stopped hiring professional athletes and started using winos from the South Street underpass about five years ago.
Brett Favre is 1-0 as a Minnesota Viking. Favre as a Viking is just plain

Usain Bolt

I had the pleasure of traveling to Jamaica recently, during the IAAF World Championships. It was interesting to be in Jamaica when their single greatest superstar, Usain Bolt, was on the other side of the world jogging past Olympic level athletes without breaking a sweat.
In case you missed it, you can read about the details of the race here. The really interesting thing about being in Jamaica while it happened was the level of attention that track and field was getting. Our driver had to pull over to the side of the road to
