The Final Four

by Ronald A. Rowe March 29th, 2010 | Basketball, NCAA
Show me a bracket with Michigan State, Butler, West Virginia, and Duke as the final four, and I'll show you somebody who filled out their bracket today.  Duke is the only #1 seed to live up to their billing this year, and Baylor didn't make it easy for them.

Really, WVU beat Kentucky?  Kentucky who won their first two games by a 2-1 margin and then closed the book on Cornell's magic run with a 17 point win.  That Kentucky.  WVU was the #2 seed and worthy of respect, but it looked for all the world like Kentucky had this thing

Sweet Sixteen

by Ronald A. Rowe March 22nd, 2010 | Basketball, NCAA
The University of Northern Iowa? Seriously? When I was filling out my bracket, I honestly didn't know who "UNI" was. Now, I think everybody knows the boys from Northern Iowa who stunned the number one seed Kansas Jayhawks in the second round of the NCAA tournament.  When I predicted last week that Lehigh didn't have a chance against Kansas, I guess I should have looked a little farther into my crystal ball to see this upset coming.

#13 Murray State has pushed their way passed #4 Vanderbuilt and came close to upsetting #5 Butler.  Not too shabby for a 13

by Ronald A. Rowe March 15th, 2010 | Basketball, NCAA, Sporting Events
The time of year is upon us when young men's fancy turns to college basketball.  There's something about the tournament that really gets you going.  March Madness goes way beyond college hoops fans, even beyond sports fans.  It's kind of like the Superbowl, only it goes on for two weeks, and the commercials aren't as good.

Every year we look for the Cinderella story, the unheralded team that shouldn't have a chance but goes farther than anyone dreamed they could.  Could Lehigh beat Kansas?  No, they can't.  But maybe, just maybe... no, they can't.  But some other schlub team that everyone

To Draft or Not to Draft

by Ronald A. Rowe March 8th, 2010 | Football, NFL
The question facing thirty-two NFL teams is not whether or not they should draft Tim Tebow.  If he were to find himself still on the board in the 5th round, any one of the teams would take him.  But what about the fourth round?  The third?  The second?  Is anyone still thinking first?

On the plus side, Tebow had a great college career.  He's a winner - a high motor, strong, smart kid.  He's also a leader.  Who can forget his "No one will work harder" speech in 2008?  There is so much to like about Tebow that it's hard

Olympic Games Roundup

by Ronald A. Rowe March 1st, 2010 | Olympics
It was a dream scenario for the men's hockey team from Canada. The Canadians were embarrassed in the preliminary rounds, only to find themselves in the Gold medal round facing off against the bullies to their south who had so traumatized them just a week earlier. A spectacular come from behind rally to tie it up (OK, in their dream scenario, it would have been the Canadians coming from behind to tie, but still...) followed by an incredible overtime period in which they claimed victory in the sport that Canadians consider to be theirs and theirs alone.

The US women's
