Eight Limbs Make You Bleed!
I challenge you to a fight and will dominate you with all eight of my limbs! Eight limbs? One of the most deadly martial arts on this planet has mastered the eight major striking surfaces of our bodies. The art is Muay Thai or the art of eight limbs.
If you are an MMA fan, you are familiar with this art. It is the style that most fighters choose for their stand-up fighting. This is because the style covers many ranges. I can keep you back from me with my long and powerful kicks. I can soften you up with my punches. I will then punish you with painful knees or elbows.
The most popular and powerful weapon of Muay Thai is the Muay Thai kick. Many fighters liken the power of this strike to that of a baseball bat. Ouch! The punching in this ancient art is very similar to western style boxing. The jab, cross, hook and uppercut are the tools of the trade.
Punches and kicks cover four of the limbs, now for the next two. Muay Thai fighters love their knee strikes. Knees come straight in to the stomach, chest or even head or from the sides to punish the legs or ribs of the opponent. Knees and the Thai kicks are great for breaking down the base of the other fighter. This is when you attack their legs and defenses to weaken them, which opens the door for other strikes and to earn even more points.
The last of the limbs are the elbows. Elbow strikes are the wild card in many Muay Thai or MMA fights. One good elbow to the face could open a cut on the other fighter. The blood could make it very difficult to see and with a weakened base and limited vision…game over. The elbow bone is a very small and almost sharp surface. Not to mention it is a very strong bone. All of these characteristics of the elbow make it lethal.
Recently, Fight Quest on Discovery did a show on Muay Thai. Check out this art there!

How close is this to ultimate fighting, I’m unfamiliar with this, but curious nontheless.

Muay Thai is obe of the best martial arts in the world…
its kinda similar to Philippines’ Yaw-Yan… short for Sayaw ng Kamatayan (Dance of Death)… it’s footboxing…
i’ve seen a lot of muay thai kicks that knocked people out.. esp at MMa fights…

Joe…. Yaw-yan is one of the best Filipino Martial Arts (FMA)
Aside from Arnis/Kali/Eskrima, Yaw-yan is well loved by the Americans…
I have also featured in my blog the FMA Eskrima/Kali…
soon i’ll publish the Yaw-Yan…
They said that Pinoys imitated the Muay Thai… but its very different from the art of Yaw-Yan….
