Fan Weekend Preview

The NFL Season is over. Done for the next seven months. Thankfully, we’ve got plenty of other sports action to tide us over. For example…

#5 Fan Day
Major League Baseball teams and UIFL indoor football teams across the fruited plain are holding fan days on Saturday to get us riled up for the upcoming season. As if we needed another excuse. If you find yourself anywhere near Lakeland, FL on Saturday, stop by the Lakeland Raiders Fan Day and meet your favorite writer. Or if he’s not there you can meet me, at least.

#4 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Tiger Woods and Tony Romo are partners for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this weekend. I’m sure they’ll have lots to talk about between holes.

#3 Chicago Bulls at Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are in second place in the Atlantic Division but are gaining ground lately. They’ve won five in a row and nine of their last 10. The Chicago Bulls have the second best record in the NBA. They’re leading their division by 2 1/2 games and are on a respectable 7-3 tear through their last 10 games. In other words, two hot teams are going to collide at the Boston Garden on Sunday.

#2 New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers
It’s an Atlantic Division showdown in Philadelphia on Saturday. The New York Rangers have extended their lead over rival Philadelphia Flyers in the past week, but it still remains a tenuous four points. The Flyers three-game skid has them in a tight spot with their nemesis coming to town.

#1 #6 Baylor at #4 Missouri
Baylor has been perfect this season — except for rough back-to-back games against Kansas and Missouri last month. Now they’re facing the same tough spot — playing Kansas on Wednesday then traveling to Missouri on Saturday. Redemption is a big word in NCAA basketball and exactly the thing that Baylor will be looking for in this game. But the Missouri Tigers are the #4 ranked team for a reason. They boast the second best field goal percentage in the NCAA and are seventh in points per game. This matchup will be one of the highlights of the weekend.
