NFL Week 6
Six week in to the NFL season. Here’s what we know:
First of all, a big mea culpa from me. Last week, I proclaimed that we wouldn’t know anything about the Philadelphia Eagles until November since they were playing only cupcakes until then. That was on the assumption that the Eagles would beat the cupcake teams on their schedule. Since they failed to score a touchdown and got bounced out of Oakland by the Raiders, I’d say we do know a lot about the Eagles right now.
Second: 59-0?!?! Are you kidding me? Not to take anything away from the Patriots and their impressive win, but… 59-0? The Titans should be disqualified immediately from the NFL and replaced by the Florida Gators.
The Rams didn’t lose… in regulation. The Jacksonville (soon to be Los Angeles?) Jaguars needed a few extra minutes to beat the winless Rams.
Perennial whiner TO is reportedly on the trading block less than half a season into his tenure in Buffalo. He’s burning through teams at an accelerated rate. I wonder how he’d look in Raider’s black and silver.
Until Sunday, I would have put the undefeated New York Football Giants in the same stratum as the undefeated New Orleans Saints. Not anymore. The G-men didn’t belong on the field with the Saints. It looks like Brees and company are men among boys in the NFC. Sadly, the Saints don’t have a regular season contest against the Vikings this year, but they should be bumping up against one another in the playoffs. Until then, the only real challenge on the Saint’s radar is an inter-conference matchup against the Patriots in week 12.
Speaking of the Patriots, they are jetting around the globe to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in jolly old England this week. In the insult to injury department, the 0-6 Bucs have to fly halfway around the world to play what is officially one of their home games… against a New England team coming off a 59-0 blow out. Ouch. Looking at their schedule, it is hard to find a winnable game for the Bucs the rest of this season.
There are still 4 unbeaten teams, but only 3 winless. Congrats to the Chiefs for getting off the schneid. With both the unbeaten Broncos and winless Titans on a bye this week, we’re guaranteed at least one of each going into week 8.
